Went on a scout ride Sunday down near and around Tar Hollow State Park,...and came across a public hunting area I was not aware of.

"Narrows Creek Public Hunting Area" which is provided by the Scioto Land Company LLC.

When we arrived ( my son and I ),there were 4 vechicles parked with 2 more pulling in.I am not sure of the boundries,or the size of the area,but I am looking into it.

I will tell you this we saw some deer signs in the form of tracks,rubs and a few scrapes.

Here's some pictures of 2 different bucks I got to take pictures of on Weds. early afternoon,while I was going to a service call in Logan.

The 1st buck was laying in the field with a doe,but she got up and moved out of range of the camera,he remained laying down for at least 2 shots of the cam and one standing up,then he bolted after her.

The next buck was further down the road on Rt 22 just before you get onto Rt 33,..he was walking down or up a driveway,then he went into the weeds and ...

Hey Kids,...

You have very little time to get ready for your gun season.

I hope you all have been practicing shooting and looking at pictures of deer in different stances so you can get an idea of what you may have to do if that deer presents a shot or a no shot.

Always remember one thing be PATIENT !!!

Don't hurry your hunt,or your shot,this could result in missing or just wounding your deer.

Watch the deer as he/she comes into range and watch their actions.

Allow me to start off by stating the obvious,...I am not a farmer.

Even though I may think I am by planting tomatoes and cucumbers and green peppers,etc,...I am CLUELESS when it comes to the who's and wherefors for corn and soybean.

On my route today,I noticed farmers in the filed cutting corn and soybean,..from Lockbourne Ohio to Chilicothe,to Hillsboro I saw corn being cut and soybean as well.

So why am I telling you all this?DEER,..Archery season starts Saturday and now with fileds ...

This Public Wildlife area abounds with scenery,beauty and yes,deer,turkey,and squirrels,and many more.There is a cemetary just west of where I was standing when I took this picture last year right before the bow opener.

Track #250 is also one of the largest tracks Mead Paper used to own and operate.Now the property of Meadwestvco,it is still open to the public.Many ways to get there and alot of road to travel.So make sure you know the area,or request a map of the area.O.P.W. can provide ...

MACKEY FORD again,..UPDATE !!!!

That's right everyone,...Mackey Ford on rt 762 is looking to be a hot place for deer so far.

I counted 9 deer so far crossing the fields and 2 were small bucks.

About 5 miles south on Rt 23 I saw a nice buck,big bodied.he was standing in a soy bean field with 2 Doe's.ODD,..but true.This was about 8:55 pm tonight.

Also saw those Turkeys again until fireworks someone was setting off scared them off.

The river (Scioto River) is down again and I am seeing deer drinking from the banks.

Hello Everyone,

I was able to drive by a new found public hunting area that consist of approx. 13,000 acreas of prime hunting land.

I have post on my blog details of this area.

The area is called "Elk Fork Public Hunting Area".

And is located off Rt 50 in Vinton Co. in Prattsville Ohio.

The other roads etc border this area are:

Rt 50,Rt 93 and Rt 677,Rt 278 and Rt 32.Rt 160 also is part of this and County Rds such as 7 and 8 run through the area.

ODNR needs to get us some Urban units to hunt.

Otherwise they need to just rename the units they have,..to "You can't hunt here areas".

I would think that urban units would be like Metro parks that aren't in city limits.OH BUT WAIT,..all those high deer populated Urban parks are in city limits.

High Banks Park off Cleveland Ave. would be one of those parks i am talking or referring too.

At one time this park was over ran by deer,..But I have visited this park recently ...

But I see alot of what mostly newspapers and tv news reports,and it seems it is all just a big fuel for them to sell and draw more viewers.

I was reading the newest publication of Ohio Outdoornews and came across one of the lead articles,...stating that Ohio is working on a web based "Check In Station".

Now I have experienced this type of check in station in upstate NY,...and I wasn't too impressed with it then.

WHY?

Simple,...it is not a good idea to allow people to poach deer or turkey etc.

And here is how it would happen,...the typical poacher will see this as a easy way to get away with whatever,...Yeah ...

Yeah,..

Black Sunday,...that is what i nicknamed yesterdays events.

Hummid air,High Winds,circlular in motion at times and very strong up and down drafts.

I saw dust devils or mini twisters in my yard and in the corn filed behind me.

The corn that once stood thick and tall is laid over in patches and looks like someone came along and trimmed the tops of the stocks.

Roofing,siding,lawn chairs and yard decorations flew by me and over me,..then night fell upon us all,and no light ...

AEP has opened a new public hunting area,..actually it was one that opened late in the season (Archery),but it is now truely open for the whole season.

Paint Creek State Park

I got to look at a park I haven't ever been to,it is located near Greenfield Ohio north of Hillsboro Ohio.

Rt 50 runs at it's sotuhern border and Rt 138 runs at the westside of the park.

Most of the park is open to hunting except for SUNDAY Hunting,which only waterfowlers are aloud to hunt ONLY.

I haven't had the chance to cover the whole park as of yet.But it is in the works.

I did get to drive on the Rt 138 area and check a little of that area.

There's a cemetary off Rt 138 which ...

On Monday I saw a fresh Road kill Doe on Rt 23 in Chillicothe at the entrance of the weigh station on the southbound side.And the next day I saw that same road kill being consumed by turkey vultures,and just about 1/8 of a mile (on the exit side),on the southbound side there was a big buck laying down and it looked as though he was trying to get up.

I was wrong,..on my return from KY I saw again,still in the same place I saw him that morning.

But he wasn't alive,when I saw him that morning ...

Talked to my bro,(BEST FRIEND),who lives in upstate NY tonight.

It was good to hear from him,it;s been a while since we last talked.

I got him into hunting while I lived in Upstate NY.

And about a year later i moved back to Ohio,due to the high cost of living there and the lack of jobs there as well.

It sux cause you meet good people like him and then your contact is severed because of miles of seperation.

I started a new job about 2 weeks ago and I am very busy with it.

I work for a water company.We provide filter system for local grocery stores and etc.

At this time I am a service tech for the Columbus and surrounding areas.Which for now my service area is most of Ohio and parts of Kentucky.After more techs are hired and trained, my route will be rural areas,which set outside of major city corps.
