I was reading the newest publication of Ohio Outdoornews and came across one of the lead articles,...stating that Ohio is working on a web based "Check In Station".

Now I have experienced this type of check in station in upstate NY,...and I wasn't too impressed with it then.
WHY?
Simple,...it is not a good idea to allow people to poach deer or turkey etc.

And here is how it would happen,...the typical poacher will see this as a easy way to get away with whatever,...Yeah he/she may buy a license,and even a deer tag,...but they will hold on to that tag until they have to use it,...while holding onto it they may take a crap load of deer and then decide to use the deer tag or turkey tag.And then call it in or go online and report their harvest.

I have seen it personally happen and yes I reported those that did it in Upstate NY.

Buying our license and tags online? YES that's a good thing,...convienece and easy stay at home without standing in line at the store or waiting for them to open up.And being able to purchase your hunting license and deer tags etc online 24/7 with your credit card,...just makes it a whole lot more better for even the out of state visitor,...and those that get paid late (3rd shifts etc.)All ya need is a printer and credit card oh and a computer.

But checking in your harvest online,...NOT a good idea !!!

I went to ODNR site and found the got the link about the proposed 2010 WOCRMS program,...that is so far just proposed.
And looks like it will happen.

I am opposed to it myself,as I have already mentioned my thoughts about it.

no, no, no, no! that is not a good idea at all !!! that would cause so much chaos it isnt even funny. shoot, i think checkin in is cool cuz you get to see or hear about others and thier good fourtune. these ppl are nuttier than a squirrel turd !

If you own land that you paid for and pay for (taxes),you shouldnt have to (MY PERSONAL OPINION),..report harvesting a deer, and or even have to have a hunting license.
But thats how I feel about that issue.
Your land your choice to do with it as you please,as long as it doesnt endanger others or cause selfharm,..I say hunt it out.

The online and phone check in thing is just to me a bad idea all the way around,because it does open doors for ilegal activity,and yes more poaching.
I know its a pain to haul your harvest to a checking station,but hey think about it like this,you cant compare yours to theirs online or on the phone!!!!
Also wether you get a deer or not,you have an excuse to get out of the house.

Seriously though,I believe there needs to be something better as fail safe,something to insure that proper records are kept of deer,turkey and other animal harvest numbers.
New York has this system and it doesnt work,AT ALL!!
They (their NYDEC), says that they have plenty of deer every year,but you never see any.And tons of tags go unfilled.
It seems to me that our ODNR is looking for a easier way to do nothing.And I feel their presents at the current checking stations serve a purpose,and they deter illegal acts even more,when they are present at the checking stations.That means they are driving from the forest areas and offices to these areasd and now they are covering ground and being seen.

Think about it folks,those of us who see these officers are somewhat glad to know that they are out there patroling and helping protect not only the wildlife we all persue but us as well.
